Flash floods hit KL after downpour

PETALING JAYA: Flash flooding affected several areas in Kuala Lumpur after a downpour that started around 5.30pm on Tuesday (November 17).

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said four reports of flash floods have been received so far.

He said the four affected areas are Jalan Segambut, Jalan Hang Lekiu, Jalan Taman Sri Rampai and Jalan Keramat.

The spokesperson added that two reports of downed trees at Jalan Damansara and the Air Panas people’s housing project were also received at 6:05 p.m. and 6:22 p.m., respectively.

Several Facebook posts show knee-deep water after the downpour allegedly in Taman Keramat, Selangor and Jelatek, Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, the owner of a restaurant in Jalan Tun HS Lee said that water started flooding his premises around 5.40pm.

“The water level was rising very fast. Within 10 minutes, my entire restaurant was flooded with water up to my knees. Several items were submerged, including all my tables and chairs. The water level started to drop around 6.30pm. .

He added that several restaurants in the area were also affected.
