KLANG: Four adults and a child died in a morning fire at a house in Kampung Delek Kanan here.

Villagers woke up to the sound of a loud explosion around 3.40am on Wednesday (November 4) and found two of the houses on fire.

The Fire and Rescue Department was notified and three fire trucks, a water tanker and 34 firefighters were dispatched to control the fire.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Director Norazam Khamis said they were alerted to the incident at around 3.56 a.m.

“Our personnel arrived at the scene in Lorong Mokhtar five minutes later.

“The fire involved five townhouses that were almost completely destroyed,” he said when contacted.

He said they found the body of a foreign man in the first house and the bodies of four others, including a boy, in the second house.

“The Cambodian was identified as Ubaidilah Ayob, 48, who was found sitting in his bathtub to seek shelter.

“In the other house, parcel sellers Fauzi Daut, 44, and his Cambodian wife Sarimah Yusuf, 37, along with his sister Fauziah, 50, were discovered in the bathroom while the body of their nephew Mohd. Amirudin Ali, 12, was found outside the bathroom. “

Norazam said they believe the victims sought refuge in the bathroom as a last resort after they were unable to escape through the locked back door.

“The houses were built without partitions, which allowed the fire to spread so quickly.

“The cause of the fire is currently being investigated,” he said, adding that they suspect the fire started from the first house based on eyewitness accounts.

He said initial investigations revealed that the Cambodian had a food business.
