KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) – The government has allowed five economic sectors to operate during the Movement Control Order (MCO) to be implemented for a period of 14 days starting on Wednesday, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Prime Minister said the sectors were industrial and manufacturing, construction, services, trade and distribution, as well as plantations and commodities.

“These sectors are authorized to operate due to their role in supporting the tasks of supplying basic needs such as food, beverages and household items, as well as personal care, personal protective equipment, medical devices and medicines for health workers. , international trade activities, to ensure uninterrupted supply chains and support critical infrastructure and emergency work, ”he said.

He said so while delivering a special speech on the implementation of the MCO that was broadcast live today.

The Prime Minister said that only 30 percent of the management group employees could be in the office, while employers would determine the needs of the support group.

He said that the specified number of employees should take into account strict adherence to stipulated standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Strict action will be taken against employers who violate SOPs and cause the spread of COVID-19 infections in the workplace, in accordance with the law, including closing facilities,” he said.

Muhyiddin said that the Ministry of Industry and International Trade would detail the types of services categorized as essential economic sectors.

For sectors or services that are not listed as essential economic sectors, he said the instructions for working from home will go into effect.

All employers must comply with the directive to reduce movement within the community, especially in high-density areas, he added.
