You’ve read the launch report, you’ve heard the specs, now it’s time for a quick tour of the new 8th-generation Hyundai Sonata. This time only one variant of the South Korean D-segment car is offered, the 2.5 Premium. It is totally imported and the launch price of the first 50 units is RM 189.888 (with 50% SST).
Design-wise, it’s based on Hyundai’s latest Sensuous Sportiness design language, combining a host of sharp lines, kinks, and panel notches for a more visually distinctive look. It features a massive cascading grille, full LED headlights and taillights, 18-inch dual-tone wheels wrapped with 235/45 profile Continental PremiumContact 6 tires, and has a drag coefficient value of 0.27 Cd.
You can choose from six exterior colors and three interior colors, including the two-tone Camel finish featured on the Nocturne Gray unit in this video. Other niceties include a 12.3-inch all-digital LCD instrument panel, an eight-inch Display Audio head unit with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electronic shift-by-wire shift selector buttons, power panoramic sunroof, full LED interior lighting and Perforated leather seats.
The Sonata’s engine is the automaker’s new 2.5-liter Smartstream naturally aspirated gasoline engine. The four-cylinder in-port injection mill puts out 180 hp and 232 Nm of torque, all of which is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic. There is no tiptronic function, but the shifters come standard.
In terms of safety, it has six airbags as standard, but Hyundai’s Smartsense advanced driver assistance systems are not available. However, there is the blind spot sight monitor, shown in this walkthrough video. So what do you think of the new Hyundai Sonata? Let us know below!
