The GSC and TGV movie chains have said they will suspend operations from November 2.

KUANTAN: Finas, the national film development corporation, is preparing an action plan especially to help cinemas that have to temporarily stop their operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said Finas had started working on an action plan upon learning that cinemas could be closed due to lack of customers.

He said the action plan was being prepared by Finas CEO Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri and Vice President Norman Abdul Halim.

“We will also review to help them on the entertainment tax issue that is under the jurisdiction of local authorities and we are prepared to negotiate with them,” he said.

Two cinema chains, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) and TGV Cinemas, were reported to be temporarily shutting down as of November 2 in light of the increase in Covid-19 cases.
