We first learned about AAG’s failures through an advertisement from Smart Communications, a telecommunications company in the Philippines. In its announcement, the operator stated that the AAG consortium will carry out emergency maintenance activities in Hong Kong from September 26-30, 2020.

However, the statement TM sent us provided a slightly different image for Malaysian users. The country’s largest telecommunications company said the AAG consortium has detected failures within the link connecting Mersing and Lantau since August 30, 2020.

TM also added that repair work was already in progress and is expected to be completed on October 5, 2020. Regarding the impact of the failures on Malaysian users, there will be minimal degradation for TM customers, according to the company.

TM further clarified saying that it has not seen any significant impact on its network capacity to the US and North Asia, as the company had already optimized and redirected its traffic through alternative routes such as Asia Pacific Cable. Network 2 and Asia Submarine Cable Express / Cahaya. Malaysia.

This was being done to help reduce the impact of AAG’s repair works in Malaysia. The company is also analyzing customer feedback as an additional way to monitor the impact of AAG failures on local users.

However, this is not the first time that flaws have appeared in the AAG, as a similar incident had taken place only a few months ago. However, please do share your feedback in our comment section as well as on our Facebook or Twitter if you believe that AAG’s failures have resulted in a degradation of your internet experience.
