Nissan dealer Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) launched a real bomb today by introducing the new Nissan Almera Turbo for select media. We already have a full report detailing the impressive specs of this B-segment sedan, but for those of you who prefer a video format we’ve got you covered there too, with a full drive-through and even our first test-drive impressions.
The new second-generation Almera is a radical departure from its lanky predecessor. Based on the latest Micra hatchback on the European market, it is much longer, wider and lower than before, which makes a big difference in making this car look more attractive. The eye-catching V-motion grille, slim arrow-shaped headlights and taillights (both available with LED technology for the first time), crisp lines and a floating roof combine to make this a much sleeker machine, which is A good omen considering the fierce competition.
It’s the same on the inside too, with a much more modern-looking interior, the use of stitched soft-touch materials on top-end models, an available partially digital instrument cluster, and an eight-inch OEM Nissan Connect infotainment touchscreen. inches with Apple CarPlay Connectivity.
But by far the most impressive specification concerns safety. Not only does the Almera have six standard-fit airbags and stability control for the first time, but autonomous emergency braking also comes standard across the range. For a perennial laggard like Nissan, this is an important step forward and puts the ball in the court of its competitors.
The engine is also completely modern. Whichever variant you get, the Almera is powered by a new 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 100 hp and 152 Nm of torque from 2,400 to 4,000 rpm. The car also ditches the old four-speed automatic transmission for an Xtronic CVT, which comes with D-Step Logic that mimics the performance of a multi-ratio automatic transmission.
No confirmed pricing has been revealed yet, but ETCM estimates that both the base VL and the mid-range VLP will be priced around the RM80,000 region, while the higher-range VLT is expected to sell around the RM90,000 mark. Pre-orders are open starting tomorrow, so launch shouldn’t be far off.
But enough of all that. You’re here to watch the video, so sit back and let our man, Hafriz Shah, go into finer detail about the car’s specs, and tell you what he thinks about how the new Almera drives. And as always, let us know what you think in the comments after the jump.
