SIBU: Police have advised companies not to crowd police stations to apply for travel permits for their employees, following claims on social media that the application period was limited to two days.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit was responding to complaints on social media, prompting crowds of applicants to flock to police stations in Sibu on Monday (January 25) and Tuesday (January 26).
“There is no need to rush to apply for permits as there is sufficient time to do so during the MCO period,” he said on Wednesday (January 27).
ACP Stanley also urged companies applying for permits to send a single representative and not all employees who have to work in the office to avoid crowds at police stations.
“The representative has to provide a business license and the list of employees,” he said, adding that they would be interviewed before the application is examined for approval.
It also said police had issued a total of 3,523 travel permits to employers of essential service workers during the period of the Movement Control Order.
Of the number, 2,770 were delivered on January 26 and 723 on January 25.
Applications for these permits can be made at four Sibu Police Stations, namely Central, Lanang, Sungai Merah and Sibu Jaya Police Stations.
Stanley also denied another claim on social media that only one person was allowed in a vehicle.
