BUTTERWORTH: A 26-year-old woman lost more than RM20,000 after she was tricked into putting her money into a non-existent investment plan.

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the victim, who works as a laborer, saw an investment ad on an Instagram post that offered high returns within 48 hours for investments starting as low as RM500.

“The victim completed his investment after he was offered a profit of up to 20 times his initial investment.

“The victim, however, did not sign any documents and never saw the suspect in person,” he said in a statement on Saturday (October 17).

ACP Noorzainy said that Tasek Gelugor’s victim only realized that she had been deceived when she was asked to pay another sum for tax purposes.

He then filed a police report.

ACP Noorzainy said the victim lost RM 23,836.70 in total.

“The public should be more careful not to be misled by this type of union.

“Never trust any ad that promises a high return on investment,” he said, adding that there was no easy way to make money.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
