Musa Hassan (left) has told Hamid Bador to name the cartel trying to overthrow him so action can be taken against them.

PETALING JAYA: A former high-ranking police officer asked Inspector General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador to expose the “cartel” trying to overthrow him so that action can be taken.

Former IGP Musa Hassan said the cartels used to be people outside the police force with close ties to certain police officers.

“The IGP must identify them so that action can be taken,” he told the FMT.

However, he said it was common knowledge that factions existed within the police force, with some officers supporting certain groups to be promoted.

“But if there are cartels, then they are from outside the force with ties to certain policemen,” he added.

Musa was responding to a March 17 report in Sinar Harian where Hamid revealed that a group of younger policemen had formed a cartel to subdue the force and overthrow him.

Hamid had said this when asked to explain his earlier disclosure that mid-level police officers were behind “a cartel of dirty cops.”

Hamid said the cartel would ensure that its collaborators were promoted so that they could dominate the force and the police hierarchy in the future, making it easier for them to do their “dirty work.”

Meanwhile, Subang Wong Chen’s deputy also said the revelation about a move to overthrow the chief police officer was “extremely worrying”, especially when the IGP had publicly commented on it.

“This has been going on for decades. We need to have a real parliamentary commission, which means that the emergency must end and Parliament must meet,” he told the FMT.

The PKR deputy added that an external royal commission would be needed to eliminate the alleged cartel within the police force.

Klang MP Charles Santiago also said a major investigation was needed on the matter.

“We are in a state of emergency. The fact that the IGP recognizes that a group of people is coming together to overthrow him clearly shows that the force has been infiltrated by officials who put their interest before that of the country, ”said Santiago.

He also said that these cartels could be one of the reasons for the continued trafficking and consumption of drugs in the country.

“If they have joined forces to overthrow the superior policeman, it means they are powerful. Are government politicians doing this or are they masterminds of the underworld? ” I ask.

He urged the government to react to the problem immediately, as some officers may be putting their personal interests before duty.

Hamid, 62, was appointed IGP on May 4, 2019 and his contract ends on May 3.
