Exemptions for driving licenses, road tax extended until May 31

Drivers whose driver’s licenses and road taxes expire between February 1 and March 31 must renew them within 60 days from April 1 to May 31.

PUTRAJAYA: The government has extended the exemption for private vehicle owners to renew their driver’s licenses (LM) and motor vehicle licenses or road tax (LKM) from April 1 to May 31, said the transport minister, Wee Ka Siong.

“However, drivers must have valid motor vehicle insurance and present their electronic coverage notes to traffic control personnel upon request,” he said in a statement today.

He said that people whose driver’s license and road tax have expired or will expire between February 1 and March 31 must renew them within 60 days from April 1 to May 31.

“Action will be taken if they don’t,” he said.

Wee added that people whose driver’s license and road tax will expire between April 1 and May 31 must renew them within 60 days from June 1 to July 31.

He said the waivers were made to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures in an attempt to address overcrowding in public places.
