PUTRAJAYA: A former marketing director of a telecommunications company and a director of the company have been in custody for five days from today to assist in investigations of a corruption case involving a systems fraud syndicate. short messages (SMS).
The pretrial detention order, which ends on November 21, was issued by Judge Siti Roslizawati Mohd Zanin after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) filed the request for pretrial detention today.
According to a MACC source, both men, aged 49 and 42, were detained at MACC headquarters at around 9:00 p.m. last night after giving their statements.
They are believed to have given and received bribes in order to obtain personal information from customers of the prepaid mobile plan.
The acquired phone numbers were later used by the union to incur subscription charges via SMS without the users’ knowledge and consent, the source said.
Currently, 16 people, including two with the title Datuk, have been in pre-trial detention since November 10 to assist in the investigations of the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act of 2009.
