KOTA BELUD: Former Chief Justice Richard Malanjum, making an appearance in the Sabah election campaign, has urged the Sabahans to vote for the Warisan Plus coalition on September 26.

The former chief judge made an appearance at Upko candidate Ewon Benedick’s electoral machine launch here on Saturday.

The Borneo Post reported it as saying that the Warisan Plus coalition led by Shafie Apdal had the goal of “restoring the wealth of the state, including its rights to oil”, as well as returning native lands to the indigenous community after being ignored for many years. .

“We want local parties that are sincere in their fight to restore Sabah’s rights, not those parties that are nominating themselves to create another ‘back door’ to allow Umno to re-enter Sabah to control us. Be careful with that, ”Malanjum said.

Benedick, the state’s former rural development minister, is running for Kedamaian’s seat.

Last month, Malanjum’s name had appeared on a list of alleged electoral candidates that Warisan would run. The list circulated widely on social media, sparking talk that he could contest a state assembly seat as Warisan’s candidate.

Malanjum was the first East Malaysian to be appointed head of Malaysia’s judiciary after Pakatan Harapan took over the federal government in 2018. He retired in April last year.
