KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) national, commercial and industrial account holders will generally enjoy a discount of between 3.6% and 9.2% in the first half of next year.

Up to 7.5 million domestic users will pay between 3.6% and 9.2% less for their electricity use during the period, said the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Datuk, Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

For commercial users, the reduction will be between 4% and 5.2% while for industrial users, the reduction will be between 4.6% and 6.1%, said yesterday in the Malaysian Forest Department Peninsular.

Shamsul said that TNB account holders can enjoy a discount of two sen per kilowatt hour from January 1 to June 30, 2021.

“The government also agreed to keep TNB’s average base rate at 39.45 sen / kilowatt hour by 2021,” he said.

Meanwhile, electricity rates for the Kulim High Technology Park (KHTP) will remain at 35.70 sen / kilowatt hour for the next year.

“At the same time, home users on KHTP will be exempt from the Imbalance Cost Transfer Surcharge (ICPT) and will enjoy the same average rate as other home users from January 1 to June 30.

“All non-domestic electricity users in KHTP will enjoy a reduction of 2.1 sen / kilowatt hour during the period,” he said.

Shamsul said this rebate is expected to generate savings of 3.83% to 3.89% for commercial users and 2.6% to 5.64% for industrial users on KHTP.
