KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Motion Control Order (EMCO) in Seberang Prai Prison and Prison Barracks in Penang will end today as scheduled as the number of cases has decreased.
Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this today at his daily press conference, adding that two more EMCOs, in a prison in Sandakan and a temporary detention center in Tawau, would also finish tomorrow as scheduled.
However, the EMCO in Taman Meru 2C zones B and C in Ipoh, Perak, has been extended until December 10. It was initially scheduled to end today.
“The Ministry of Health confirmed that the last reported case in the Seberang Prai prison and barracks was on November 29.
“All the test samples have returned and there are no pending results, so the government agreed to terminate the EMCO there today,” Ismail said.
The area was originally placed under EMCO from October 22 to November 19, but was extended again to December 2.
The Sandakan Prison, its staff units at Taman Wira and the Tawau Temporary Detention Center were placed under the EMCO from November 6 to 19 before being extended. Ismail said the last case in Sandakan was on November 27, while the last case in Tawau was on November 30.
The EMCO in two other Sabah locations, Kampung Nahaba and Kampung Tegudon in Kota Belud, will also end today as scheduled.
Meanwhile, Ismail said 290 people were arrested by police yesterday for disobeying standard operating procedures, with 285 of them fined, four in pre-trial detention and one on bail.
Most of the cases were due to not practicing physical distancing (103), not registering customers’ personal data when entering stores (72) and not wearing masks (67).
There were also 29 people who were detained for crossing district and state borders without permission and seven who were caught in entertainment venues.
Authorities also detained 27 undocumented immigrants and a suspected trafficker yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign.
