KUALA LUMPUR: An Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be implemented at the Kamunting Correctional Center (Kemta) in Taiping, Perak, as well as at its premises for staff from tomorrow (December 30) until January 12, 2021.
Chief Minister (Security Group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said EMCO’s goal was to control the existing group and prevent the spread of Covid-19 to other prisoners, staff, family members, and communities outside of Kemta.
“As of December 24, 2020, the Ministry of Health (Malaysian Ministry of Health) has examined a total of 1,490 detainees, and of the total, 50 tested positive for Covid-19,” he said in a statement here today.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said that 142 people were handed over compounds yesterday for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), while 16 immigrants were arrested and three ground vehicles seized under Operation Ops Benteng.
It added that 93,728 Malaysians had returned from abroad between July 24 and December 28, and 540 of them had been sent to hospital for treatment. -Called
