UPDATED 6.50PM | COVID-19 | An Enhanced Motion Control Order (EMCO) has been enforced at Medan 88 in Salak Tinggi, Sepang, after Covid-19 cases were detected there.
The two-week lockdown will run from tomorrow, November 12, until November 25.
Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced tonight that all businesses in the surrounding area will have to close, except stores that sell basic necessities.
“The improved MCO will affect 88 business locations, 284 locations, and 800 residents.
“The improved MCO will also allow the Ministry of Health to conduct targeted tests and monitor the movement of people to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the community,” Ismail said.
In accordance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) for areas under enhanced MCO, residents are required to stay home and only one person per household may go out to meet basic needs.
Authorities are supposed to deliver basic food to affected residents.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, Rina Harun, visited the town of Medan today.
The government news service previously reported that the area covers 2.64 hectares.
As of November 10, 40 positive cases of Covid-19 were reported in the area.
The rest of Selangor is currently under a conditional MCO, where residents can travel to work but have restrictions on their movements for social purposes.
EMCO raised in two areas of Lahad Datu
Ismail also announced today that the improved MCO, previously imposed on two Lahad Datu towns, Mutiara Kasih Apartment and Taman Khazanah Indah, has been lifted.
This comes after none of the residents tested positive for Covid-19.
The National Security Council had previously decided to extend the blockade, pending the results of a second round of tests.
“As of November 10, the Ministry of Health found that all 5,189 samples from its second tests (for Covid-19) were negative. The ministry also found no new cases of Covid-19 in both locations in the last 18 days, “said Ismail.
Apartment residents Mutiara Kasih and Taman Khazanah Indah previously protested the improved extension of the MCO, saying the move would result in further loss of income and jobs.
Both areas were closed for the first time almost a month ago, on October 13.
