It looks like Ed Woodward might be ready to make a massive decision regarding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Manchester United.

Over the past few seasons, it has been a story one step forward and two steps back for Manchester United. They just can’t figure out how to get back into that winning habit that made them so successful with Sir Alex Ferguson.

There have been bright spots under every coach that has come since. But for everything that seems to go right, two end up going wrong. And it quickly starts to look like the same could end up being the case for Solskjaer as well.

When the Norwegian replaced Mourinho, he had an incredible run when it seemed like he might hold the key to unlocking Manchester United. However, it hasn’t exactly been an easy navigation since.

Yes, overall the club has seemed to have made progress in some areas and while there were quite a few bumps along the way, they finished third last season. However, it is undeniable that the beginning of this season will worry Red Devils fans.

Solskjaer’s side lost 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace on opening day before claiming a victory at Brighton and Hove Albion in an equally poor performance. José Mourinho’s 6-1 defeat at Old Trafford at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur would have sounded the alarm bells and you have to think that it is only a matter of time before questions arise about the manager’s future.

According to reports from The Daily Mirror, Ed Woodward is ready to fire Solskjaer if the results do not improve. Although many fans have questioned the inability of the Manchester United executive vice president to deliver the players the coach wanted in the transfer window.

If the club ends up firing Solskjaer, it will be the same old story. While questions have always been raised regarding his ability to manage a club of this size, he has made some progress throughout his time in the managerial hot seat.

Firing him at this point will just mean bringing in another coach, giving him time to settle in, and then placing the players in the next transfer window so the club can play the style of football it wants. A cycle that has become familiar to Manchester United fans over the last year.
