KUALA LUMPUR: After the appropriations for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the 2021 Budget were approved with a simple voice vote in Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam) reprimanded MPs from the opposition for being “consistently inconsistent.”
Dr Wee asked why the opposition MPs did not request a block vote on the allocations for the Foreign Ministry, as several MPs from Pakatan Harapan had declared on Monday (November 30) that they would ask for a block vote on the approval of the assignments of each ministry.
“It appears that opposition MPs have realized that their ‘wayang’ (performance) is not well received,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (December 1).
Dr Wee noted that the Opposition’s two attempts on Monday to derail the allocations for the Prime Minister’s Department and the Finance Ministry were futile after they failed to garner enough support when the block vote was called.
“That is why I used the slogan #ConsistentlyInconsistent to describe the Opposition’s move to present a block vote in parliament.
“They weren’t even kidding when Mohamad Sabu exclaimed and said, ‘The Opposition will ask for a block vote for each ministry and losing 27-0 is fine,” he said.
“But Abang Mat (Mohamad) is not even here in Dewan Rakyat when the Foreign Ministry allocations under the 2021 Budget would be approved at committee stage in Parliament,” added Dr. Wee.
The president of the MCA also said that the front row of the Opposition bench generally consisted of nine of its top leaders, but only the DAP secretary general, Lim Guan Eng, was present when the Foreign Ministry was about to be approved by voice vote.
“When there are no block votes, and the allocations are approved by voice vote, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (Independent-Jerlun) immediately packed his bags and ran out of the House.
“Is this a coincidence? This happened at the same time that Datuk Seri Najib Razak was present in the Chamber, ”he said.
“Did Najib’s presence make Pakatan change his strategy and make them flinch by asking for a block vote? Only Pakatan leaders can respond to this, ”he added.
The allocations for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Unity under the 2021 Budget were approved at the committee stage with a simple voice vote in Parliament on Tuesday (December 1).
