Dr. Mahathir ‘disgusted’ by attempts to misrepresent what he wrote

PETALING JAYA: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has said that he is disgusted by attempts to misrepresent what he wrote on his blog, which was reproduced on his Twitter and Facebook accounts.

In a blog post on Friday (Oct 30), the Langkawi MP said he should have had a chance to explain his social media posts about recent violence in France before they were removed.

Below is his blog post in its entirety:

1. In fact, I am disgusted with attempts to misrepresent and take out of context what I wrote yesterday on my blog.

2. Those who did that highlighted only one part of paragraph 12 that said: “Muslims have the right to be angry and to kill millions of French people because of the massacres of the past.”

3. They stopped there and hinted that I am promoting the massacre of the French.

4. If they had read the publication in its entirety and especially the subsequent sentence that said: “But, in general, Muslims have not applied the law of ‘eye for an eye’. Muslims do not. The French shouldn’t. Instead, the French should teach their people to respect the feelings of others.

5. Due to the turn and the presentation out of context of those who picked up my publication, complaints were made against me and I am accused of promoting violence, etc … on Facebook and Twitter.

6. FB and Twitter asked the administrators of my Facebook and Twitter accounts to remove the posts. Despite attempts to explain the context of the post, they were removed.

7. There is nothing I can do about Facebook and Twitter’s decision to remove my post. In my opinion, since you are the purveyors of freedom of expression, you should at least allow me to explain and defend my position.

8. But that is for them freedom of expression. On the one hand, they defended those who chose to display offensive cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and hope that all Muslims will buy it in the name of freedom of expression. On the other hand, they deliberately removed that Muslims had never sought revenge for injustice against them in the past.

9. Even my call for the French to explain the need to advise their people to be sensitive and respect the beliefs of others is omitted.

10. What is promoted by this reaction to my article is to incite French hatred towards Muslims.
