PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan will continue to fight to return the people’s mandate to the right party, say Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and the president of PKR said that currently institutional reforms, the rule of law and the economy have been halted because certain parties have their own agendas.

“The mandate of the people has been betrayed and the Pakatan government fell last February when Covid-19 began to affect the country.

“Today’s government would do anything to consolidate power.

“We do not recognize this government. Our principles are clear from the first day this government was formed, which continues without the mandate of the people,” they said in a joint statement on Saturday (May 9) to mark the anniversary of the day. from Pakatan. he won the 14th general election that ousted Barisan Nasional, who had ruled the country since independence.

They noted that the current government was not legally obtained through the ballot box in a general election, adding that it was based on greed for the posts.

“We do not want to sacrifice our morals and ethics to support this government.

“We don’t want to betray the people who had lined up at the polling stations to vote, spent hundreds to fly back to vote, took unpaid leave to change the destiny of this country again,” they said.

The duo added that two years ago, people of various faiths and races had come together to support their effort, among others, by donating, to see change in the country.

“Two years ago we did not give up to let the voices of the people be heard. Today it is the same. We have long rejected differences, disputes and crises for the people.”

“Now we are old, we do not have much time. But, the spirit of struggle still burns in the souls of young people who dream of reform. The time has come for us to rise up again and continue to return the mandate of the people to the correct party, “they said.

They also noted that on May 9, the world witnessed history when Malaysia formed a new government that upheld the rule of law, moral values, and responsibility.

They added that May 9 was not only an event that remembered the unity between each Malay, but an event that raised the destiny and future of the people, as well as to fight against injustice in the country.

They also said that when Pakatan ruled, they made sure democracy prospered.

They said that the Dewan Rakyat received a new life, institutional reform and public administration became the heart of the country, the states received the same attention in all political spheres and there was freedom of expression.

“All of this became the priority of the Pakatan government,” they said.

The Pakatan government collapsed in February after losing its majority in Parliament following the departure of 26 MPs from Bersatu, including Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and 11 others from the PKR.

Dr. Mahathir then resigned as the country’s prime minister.

However, Muhyiddin took over as the new prime minister after he allegedly ordered the endorsement of a new alliance known as Perikatan Nasional consisting of Barisan, PAS and others.

Since then, Dr. Mahathir has sought a mistrust motion against Muhyiddin.

On Friday (May 8), Dewan Rakyat President Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff, MD Yusoff, accepted Dr. Mahathir’s motion of distrust against Muhyiddin.
