KULIM: Heavy rains, which poured down for about two hours, flooded several low-lying areas here, including parts of the Kulim Hospital.
Cloudy brown water could be seen covering the roads outside the hospital and flowing into the building on viral social media posts.
In one photo, water cascaded down a 2m wall into the hospital compound where chairs and tables were placed.
Hospital staff rushed to rescue the items and place them on higher ground to avoid damage.
Minor flooding was also reported in other parts of Penang and traffic along several highways slowed as vehicles maneuvered through the water.
The Fire and Rescue Department reported that a car was stranded at Jalan Kubang Menerong in Kepala Batas.
Not far away, at Jalan Simpang Empat in Permatang Buloh, firefighters responded to a call reporting that a cow had fallen into a 4-meter-deep monsoon drain.
The department’s fire operations and safety officer, Nafis Ariff Abdullah, said the cow had nearly drowned when firefighters arrived at the scene.
“We used a hose and ropes to hoist the cow to safe ground. Fortunately, it was still alive and returned to its owner,” he said.
