The chief security minister says there is no need to “get into a shopping frenzy.”

BERA: People will be given enough time to make preparations before any measures are put in place to control the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He advised people to refrain from panic buying following speculation that the government would re-implement the motion control order (MCO).

People are also urged not to be easily fooled by false news or assumptions made by various quarters about the decision to be announced.

“There is no need to go into a shopping frenzy … all that has gone viral is fake news … just wait for the government announcement.

“Whatever the decision, it will not be enforced with immediate effect, time will be given (to prepare) perhaps two, three days or more,” he told Bernama here today.

On speculation that the MCO would be implemented again, he said he was confident that the government would not implement a full lockdown under the previous MCO.

“Whatever the decision, it is in the best interest of the people, so don’t panic,” he added.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will make a special announcement on Monday about the steps the government will take to deal with the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.
