KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government should not rely too heavily on federal government measures to curb Covid-19, the state assembly was told today.

Opposition leader Shafie Apdal (Warisan-Senallang) said that the state government itself must take aggressive and effective measures, including controlling entry to Sabah and providing health services to the population.

“I hope that we will take more drastic measures to curb Covid-19, I suggest that the state government itself tries to get vaccines for the people of Sabah, and we cannot just depend on the federal government (to get the vaccines).

He said that RM3 billion had been allocated to buy vaccines, but Sabah, Selangor and some other states are red zones. “I am concerned that when vaccines are distributed, Sabah will not have priority,” he said while debating the state budget today.
