Bank Negara Malaysia Penang manager Abdul Hamid Ali says the banks are prepared to help any debtor financially affected by the pandemic and will consider all the predicaments debtors face.
“It is important for those affected by the current situation to prevent their credit history from going bad.
“We also want to avoid complications if they are applied at the last minute,” he said.
The Chairman of the Malaysian Banking Association North Region Zolkefli Awang said that all banks had alternative payment plans.
Zolkefli, who is Maybank’s regional director of community financial services, said that in the case of Maybank, several payment plans had already been designed to meet the needs of any debtor.
“We know that many are suffering now and after the moratorium ends this month, we want to avoid making it more difficult for those affected,” he said.
Abdul Hamid and Zolkefli were speaking with reporters at a press conference to announce the Penang Post Moratorium Loan Repayment Assistance Campaign, which will take place this weekend.
Organized by Bank Negara and the state business development committee, 17 major banks and six government agencies will meet to meet with debtors in this two-day campaign at the Raia Hotel (formerly Tabung Haji Hotel) in Bayan Lepas from 10 a.m. M. At 6 p. M., This Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to being able to discuss their loan payment terms with their on-site banks, visitors can obtain financial advice and print their credit report.

“We welcome walk-ins, but hope that visitors will pre-register to find out how many to wait and prepare the venue with physical distance measurements,” said Abdul Hamid.
The chairman of the state business development committee, Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, urged Penang residents who want their loan repayment terms to be reviewed to contact their banks without delay.
