PETALING JAYA: Malaysians across the country will be able to travel between districts and interstate starting Monday.
Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said there will no longer be barricades and travelers will no longer need a police permit, except in certain areas under the Enhanced Movement Control (EMCO) order.
Speaking at a news conference today, he said police had been instructed to focus on monitoring SOP compliance from now on.
Ismail also announced that the rule of three per vehicle will be lifted.
“We will no longer limit the number (of passengers) per vehicle. The limit will be based on the seating capacity, ”he said.
“Normally, for family cars, there are two (seats) in the front and three in the back. So the (passenger) limit for that car will be five. “
Commenting on the tourism sector, he said the National Security Council (MKN) would discuss with the Tourism Ministry and provide a “positive list” of activities that will be allowed to take place soon.
He said this would likely include outdoor activities, like going to the zoo.
Ismail added that the government would hold discussions on Monday about the work-from-home order for states that have returned to the recovery MCO (RMCO) and whether people can be allowed to return to the office in full force.
On the daily enforcement against those who committed MCO-related crimes, Ismail said 491 people were arrested yesterday by the police, of whom 437 received compound fines and 54 in pretrial detention.
Most of them were sanctioned for not wearing masks, not registering customers’ personal data when entering stores and not observing physical distancing.
Authorities also detained 116 undocumented immigrants and seized a boat and a vehicle yesterday as part of Ops Benteng’s ongoing campaign.
He added that 869 people returned to Malaysia yesterday from various countries, all of which are currently in mandatory quarantine.
