PAC says the threat of legal action from YWP is a clear attempt to interfere with the powers of Parliament.

PETALING JAYA: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) warned the relevant parties not to threaten its members who were only performing their duties, saying it was “out of place.”

This comes as Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) today threatened to sue PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh for his statement on the completion of the PAC investigation into 97 land deals by the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) from 2011.

YWP’s legal director, Mohd Fadzil Ab Hamid, said the foundation is exploring the possibility of taking legal action over the allegations made by the PAC.

Based on its research on the land deals, the PAC found that YWP’s involvement in the DBKL land purchase was a conflict of interest, as the minister of federal territories and the mayor of Kuala Lumpur are the foundation’s chairman. and the member of the board of trustees, respectively.

“YWP’s declaration to sue our president is totally unjustified and is an attempt to challenge and desecrate the institution of Parliament.

“Any denunciation or threat to the PAC or its members, in relation to matters under investigation or reports presented, is a clear attempt to interfere with the powers of Parliament,” said PAC in a statement.

In its report, released Tuesday, the PAC also recommended that YWP become a statutory body.
