PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi today issued a reminder that the PPBM is in its current position due to the 15 Umno MPs who changed parties after the last general election.
In lashing out at his partner Annuar Musa, the Frankish leader agreed that Umno had lost in GE14, but said it was still the party that had won the most seats.
“It was just that Umno hadn’t been able to find enough friends to form the government,” he said in response to Annuar’s advice to Umno’s leaders to get out of their superiority complex.
Annuar, who is the general secretary of Barisan Nasional, had also said that Umno leaders should be thankful to God that the party returned to the helm in the Putrajaya administration, warning them that this could be lost at any time.
Puad reminded Annuar that PPBM managed to win only 13 seats, but partnered with DAP, PKR and Warisan to form the Pakatan Harapan coalition to form the government.
“Umno had recognized the PH government. There were no emergencies declared then (to remain in power), ”he said.
Puad alluded to the political move perceived by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, under Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, to declare an emergency in October. The move was rejected by Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Puad said that after the fall of the PH government, PN was formed with the mutual support of all its partners, saying it didn’t matter who the winners or losers were, although Umno had the most seats.
“As our president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) said, it did not matter who did a good deed or who was in debt to whom. This support must have political honesty, without backstabbing, ”he said, adding that Annuar knows it.
Puad also emphasized the political strength and relevance of Umno, saying that his victories in seven by-elections after GE14 were proof that the party still had the support of the people.
He also struck out at Annuar’s claim that the PAS would only commit to a political pact that included the PPBM, and asked why he was acting as a spokesperson for another party.
Puad also reminded him that the president of Umno knew more about this and told Annuar not to replace the chief on political or tactical matters involving the party.
On Annuar’s claim that he was the “sole negotiator” during the Sabah elections in September, Puad said that he had failed as Umno’s consultant for not talking about PPBM’s Hajiji Noor’s Muhyiddin election as the state’s prime minister. .
BN had previously nominated Sabah BN boss, Bung Moktar Radin, for the position.
