KUALA LUMPUR, November 12: The long-awaited next-generation gaming console, Sony’s Playstation 5, sold out almost immediately after opening for pre-sale in Malaysia.
Game enthusiasts took to social media to express their disappointment, with some complaining on the Sony Store Malaysia Facebook page complaining about how the consoles sold out minutes after pre-orders began at midnight.
Sheahnee Iman Lee expressed disappointment that she spent months saving money to buy the next generation console for her husband as a birthday present.
She was redirected to the main page where she was notified that the console was already out of stock in the final steps of completing her purchase, an issue faced by more than a few who had the same complaints.
In the meantime, resellers have sprung up, as resellers who managed to get hold of the console went to local sites to advertise, selling the console for RM3,999, almost double the original price of RM2,299.
Both Sony Playstation 5 and its digital version are currently out of stock on the Sony Store Malaysia website.
Meanwhile, Sony Malaysia announced yesterday that pre-orders can also be made walk-ins at its select retailers.
Almost all retailers confirmed that pre-orders have been booked for noon.
Sony Center at Sunway Pyramid posted on its Facebook that all of its Playstation 5 consoles had sold out today at 12pm, while Sony Center at Mid Valley Megamall also announced that it sold out its pre-orders at 1pm today.

With the first batch of pre-orders sold out, fans will only be able to purchase the Sony Playstation 5 when it is officially available in Malaysia starting December 12.
