PUTRAJAYA: 95 private hospitals in the country have agreed to help manage the growing cases of Covid-19, says the Ministry of Health.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are 130 private hospitals that have the capacity to treat category 3 or higher patients.
“Of the 130 private hospitals, 95 of them have agreed to help the ministry treat Covid-19 patients.
“So we are waiting for a response from a few more hospitals. But this is good progress as it is less than a week after we had engagement sessions with the private sector, ”Dr. Noor Hisham said during a virtual media session on Monday (January 25).
With the commitment of private hospitals, Dr. Noor Hisham said that the Ministry of Health will be reinforced with more than a thousand additional beds to treat patients with Covid-19.
“With this, there is an additional capacity of 1,286 hospital beds, as well as 65 intensive care beds and 54 private sector ventilators,” he said.
Dr. Noor Hisham also said that the implementation of the Emergency Ordinance has helped strengthen the capacities of the Ministry of Health to handle the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Ordinance has helped all sectors to combine resources to strengthen existing capacity, facilities and human resources.
“For example, some private hospitals may not have certain drugs to treat Covid-19. Government facilities can lend them the medicine and they can return it in the future, ”he said.
