Director Kim Ki Duk passed away while in Latvia.

On December 11, local news portal Delfi reported that Kim Ki Duk passed away due to complications from COVID-19. Kim Ki Duk was described as having been in Latvia since November 20 to buy a house in order to obtain resident status. It is reported that he was recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and died in a hospital after experiencing complications.

A representative of his production company Kim Ki Duk Film has confirmed with Sports Chosun that Kim Ki Duk passed away in Latvia. They claimed that nothing has been decided about the funeral plans yet, as her family had just heard the news.

Kim Ki Duk is a well-known auteur filmmaker who has been internationally recognized for his films such as “Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter… and Spring”, “3-Iron”, “Samaria”, “Pietà” and more.
He is the only Korean director to have received awards from the world’s top three international film festivals in Cannes, Venice, and Berlin.
