PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has granted conditional approval to more Covid-19 vaccines for use in the country.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Drug Control Authority met on Tuesday (March 2) and approved conditional registration for vaccines produced by AstraZeneca of the UK and Sinovac of China.
The authority also granted additional approval to Pfizer-BioNTech, which produces the “Comirnaty” vaccine, for its vaccines that are manufactured in Mainz, Germany.
The vaccines that had the first approval were those manufactured in Puurs, Belgium.
Pfizer’s Comirnaty were the vaccines first approved by Malaysia and used to vaccinate the country’s leaders when the National Covid-19 Immunization Program began on February 26.
“This conditional registration requires the parent company to submit an analysis of the most recent data by continuous submission, which will be evaluated by the National Division of Pharmaceutical Regulation (NPRA).
“This is to ensure that the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine is always up to date and the ‘benefits over risk’ of this vaccine remain positive,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in his press conference on Covid-19 updates here. on Tuesday (March 2).
Dr. Noor Hisham added that the NPRA is still evaluating two Covid-19 vaccines, which include Sputnik V.
