PETALING JAYA: Those returning from Sabah to other parts of the country through the country’s international points of entry will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine at home, says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director general of Health said that from Sunday (September 27) until October 10, detection activities will be carried out on those arriving from Sabah.
He said this includes having to undergo a Covid-19 symptom screening and a Covid-19 test.
“All of these people will be given a Home Surveillance Order (HSO) letter and will have to wear a quarantine bracelet,” he said, adding that they would also have to register using the MySejahtera app.
“The HSO date will begin on arrival until the lab results are obtained. The HSO will only be released if laboratory results for Covid-19 are negative, “he said in a statement on Saturday (September 26).
He said that for those who have to take public transportation, such as taxis or transportation services, they will be given a letter of approval.
“If the person shows any respiratory tract infection symptoms within 14 days of their return, they will have to undergo another Covid-19 test,” he said.
He also said that there would be no charge for Covid-19 tests imposed on people returning from Sabah, including non-citizens.
Dr Noor Hisham said that measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 by returnees from the state will be reviewed from time to time, based on the risk of spreading the disease.
On Friday (September 25), Dr. Noor Hisham said that ten positive cases of Covid-19 were detected among those who returned from Sabah from September 20 to 25, while on Saturday another 11 cases were detected among those who returned. .
In recent weeks, Sabah has recorded a spike in Covid-19 cases, with several new clusters detected with Benteng’s LD cluster reporting 776 positive cases.
When the Sabah elections conclude on Saturday, many of those involved in the elections are expected to travel back to Peninsular Malaysia.
