Diogo Jota is giving Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ‘a problem’

Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy believe Diogo Jota is giving Jurgen Klopp a pick headache after another winning goal against West Ham.

The Reds rose to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win against the Hammers.

Liverpool had to come back to win after Pablo Fornals had given the visitors an unlikely lead.

Mohamed Salah tied Klopp just before halftime, before Jota came off the bench to grab the winner with five minutes remaining.

It was the third time in a week that Jota found the net at Anfield, having also scored the deciding goal in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United and the first in a 2-0 win over the FC Midtjylland in the middle of the week.

With Jota scoring vital goals for Liverpool, Shearer and Murphy believe he is pushing the Reds’ three forwards hard to be a starting spot, while also praising the impact of Xherdan Shaqiri, who set Jota up for the winner.

“They were very, very good substitutions,” Shearer said at MOTD.

“West Ham were comfortable, they played well, they were a bit of a threat going forward, they looked tight, but once these two arrived, it was a different matter.

“They added a bit of craftsmanship, rhythm going forward, particularly from Jota, and it was a different decision when they came in.

“I think the disallowed goal was the right decision, it was great to come in first from Jota. I think it was the right decision, but the winning goal was magnificent from Shaqiri.

“The weight of the pass, the vision, the technique to hit it through his legs and it was a magnificent finish.”

Murphy added: “Jota is giving Klopp a problem. That wonderful forward three hasn’t been pressured for a long time and now he’s scoring goals, making an impact, saying ‘don’t leave me out.’

Liverpool made their Premier League debut to Nathaniel Phillips with Fabinho joining Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip on the bench through injury.

Murphy was truly impressed with the performance of the young center-back on a night he will never forget.

“There was a lot of talk this week about who is going to come in and play, he got the go ahead,” he said.

“He worked his way up, he gained some confidence. He played really simple, he did the right things with the ball, but when he’s in the area, he’s a real presence.

“He won more aerial duels than anyone, he got into the game. His commitment was there to see. First Premier League match at Anfield, you’ve probably dreamed of it so many times, the sad thing is, there was no one to see it.

“He will be excited tonight, he will not sleep. He did a very, very good performance. He can be very proud.”
