Digi has announced that it will partner with ZTE Corporation for the modernization of its radio access network (RAN). The yellow telco said this is part of its ongoing efforts to improve its network capacity and provide an improved experience for its customers, while ensuring that its network is 5G ready.
Digi CTO Kesavan Sivabalan said: “We believe that the use of modernized technology with the latest radio access solutions will deliver an efficient network overall, with the speed, efficiency and agility critical to our ongoing day-to-day operations. day. This initiative will also provide us with a future-proof 5G network capable of delivering new and innovative services and significantly improved quality of experience. “
Commenting on the partnership, ZTE Malaysia CEO Steven Ge said: “We are honored to have been chosen as a RAN provider for Digi. This continues our tradition of working together, which now reaches 10 years. We will continue to support Digi’s goal of connecting customers through a high-quality network. After modernization, Digi will have a highly efficient 5G-enabled network. “
According to Digi, the network modernization exercise will update its network with the latest technological evolution that supports higher throughput and lower latency. The new equipment has increased processing capabilities and will be able to support dynamic spectrum sharing, multi-carrier aggregation, higher-order MIMO and cellular Internet of Things (C-IoT), to ensure future readiness and adoption of 5G .
He also added that the network upgrades will allow Digi to fulfill the ambition of the government’s JENDELA plan to provide widespread quality connectivity across the country. Malaysia aims to increase 4G population coverage nationwide from 91.8% to 96.9% within JENDELA phase 1 (2020-2022). The MCMC is not granting new spectrum at this time and telcos will need to improve their 4G coverage by optimizing their existing spectrum.
