PUTRAJAYA: The emergence of new groups in countries that have recovered from Covid-19 is a concern for Malaysia, says the Ministry of Health.
Director-General of Health Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah has again asked Malays to “unite” and strictly observe social discipline to break the Covid-19 chain in the country.
“In fact, many countries are concerned about the possible appearance of a second wave of Covid-19. We are equally concerned, “Dr. Noor Hisham said at the Covid-19 ministry daily press conference here on Tuesday (May 12).
He said Malaysia has done well to reduce the number of cases in the country during the early stages of the movement control order (MCO).
“The responsibility does not lie with the government but with each individual. Social compliance and discipline are important. If we can all comply with the SOPs (standard operating procedures) introduced by the Ministry of Health, we can further reduce the graph.
“Whether we have a second wave or not does not depend solely on the ministry. The responsibility is also in the public, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham.
He was asked about the emergence of new Covid-19 clusters in China and South Korea, raising global concern about the possibility of a second wave of the coronavirus outbreak.
However, Dr. Noor Hisham expressed his faith that Malaysians will maintain their discipline throughout the MCO conditional period.
“The IGP (Inspector General of Police) informed me that our level of compliance is almost 90%.
So maybe we just have to focus on 10%.
“If our industries, our supermarkets comply with the SOPs given by the Ministry of Health, I am sure that we can further reduce cases.
“We have to make history. If we want to be successful, if we want to break the chain of infection, we have to unite as one. If we all strive, I am sure we can. Malaysia Boleh, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham.
The city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic in China, has reported its first group of infections since it lifted its block a month ago.
In South Korea, a new group tracked to the Seoul nightlife district has resulted in the largest increase in cases in the country in recent days.
