KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat session for the third session and the third term of the 14th Parliament has been extended by two days, making the duration of the full session 29 days. It will end on December 17.

According to a letter from the Dewan Rakyat secretary’s office, the amendment was in line with Dewan Rakyat Standing Order 11 (2).

According to the regulations, the head or deputy head of the house can change the stipulated date from time to time.

Dewan Rakyat’s session prior to this was scheduled to end on December 15 with the 2021 budget discussion session at the committee level.

According to the letter, the two additional days were allotted for the presentation of bills and other government business.

An amendment was also made to the Dewan Negara calendar, which would meet from December 16 to 23. Originally, it was to meet December 14-23.

According to a letter from the Dewan Negara Clerk’s Office to members of the Senate, the deadline was set by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin as House Leader through a November 11 letter addressed to the Dewan Negara Speaker.

It was in keeping with Standing Order 10 (2) and 14 (2) of the Dewan Negara. Based on Permanent Order 10 (2), the setting of the dates of the session must be carried out by the head or substitute of the house at least 28 days before the beginning of each period.

Meanwhile, in accordance with Standing Order 14 (2), government business must be established in the order the government deems convenient and the secretary informed accordingly.
