KUALA LUMPUR: The first national budget of the Perikatan Nasional government (PN) was approved today in the Dewan Rakyat after receiving the majority support of the deputies through the block vote.

The 2021 Supply Bill or Budget, presented for the third reading by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, was approved after 111 MPs voted in favor, 108 against and one MP was absent.

The bill had undergone 10 days of debate and all ministries had finished it at the committee stage after it was passed at the policy stage on November 26.

Prior to this, nine ministries had also faced block votes before their respective budgets were approved.

They were the Ministry of Finance; Ministry of Plantations and Basic Products Industries; Ministry of Federal Territories; Ministry of Industry and International Trade; Prime Minister’s Department; Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture; Ministry of Transportation; Ministry of Housing and Local Government; and Ministry of Communications and Multimedia.

An allocation totaling RM322.5 billion was proposed in the national budget for 2021, making it the largest in the country’s history, mainly to help the government manage and cushion the economic impact of the Covid-pandemic. 19 in the people and the country. .
