PETALING JAYA: The Vice Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, will be summoned to Dewan Negara to explain the disinformation about the Veveonah Mosibin problem, says Tan Sri Rais Yatim.

According to the Free Malaysia Today (FMT) news portal, the chairman of Dewan Negara said that Zahidi had to explain the matter as the Cabinet had already ruled on it.

“After weighing the matter, we agreed that he should appear at the Dewan Negara.

“It is so that he can give his opinion, explain and finally apologize to the affected person.

“If he refuses, maybe we can refer him to the Rights and Privileges Committee.

“I hope we can record this as an early decision,” FMT said during the Dewan Negara session on Thursday (September 10).

On September 3, Zahidi, in Dewan Negara, accused the Universiti Malaysia Sabah student of lying about having to climb a tree to get a better internet connection for her exam, to gain fame as a YouTuber.

Veveonah, a native of Pitas, denied this and posted her test schedule online June 9-12 on Twitter.

Zahidi apologized for his mistake and said he would rectify his comment. But then, on September 7, he said that Kudat MP Abdul Rahim Bakri had provided him with incorrect information, who received the information from a “professor”.

Rahim also contested Veveonah in a Facebook post on September 7, continuing the line that he had done it for YouTube fame. He later deleted the post.

However, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Datuk Masidi Manjun, confirmed that Veveonah was taking his university exams online when his viral video was posted.

On Wednesday (September 9), Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the cabinet had found that the comments made by Zahidi and Abdul Rahim Bakri “were neither correct nor unnecessary.”
