BUTTERWORTH: The lack of an international sign language interpreter led to a guilty plea not being recorded when a 54-year-old deaf and dumb Korean pastor was charged with two counts of outraging the modesty of two men in magistrate court here. .
Magistrate M. Kalaiarasi postponed the case to allow Jee Jon Hoon to reread the charges in international sign language to reinterpret Jee’s charge and record a guilty plea.
Jee was accused of forcefully kissing, hugging and groping the private parts of Goh Chin Keong, then 21, with criminal force at 12:20 am in a room in Jee’s apartment in Seri Cemerlang, Lorong Seri Cemerlang 1, Kampung Paya in Butterworth on October 13. 2013.
Jee was also charged with a second count of outraging the modesty of Foo Lun Leong, then 24, by forcefully kissing and fondling her private parts with the intention of abusing in the same place in July 2017 at 11 p.m.
Both charges under Section 354 of the Penal Code stipulate a prison term of up to 10 years, a fine, flogging or either of these two penalties.
Assistant District Attorney Azlin Zeti Zainal Abidin was indicted while G. Shanmugam represented Jee.
Kalaiarasi has set January 18 next year for the mention of the case for Jee to read the charges in international sign language with an interpreter provided by the Palace of Justice.
The pastor was reportedly detained on suspicion of sexually abusing disabled persons.
Bukit Aman CID Director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said six police reports, five in Penang and one in Selangor, were filed against the suspect.
“The suspect was initially detained on November 23 and in preventive detention until November 30.
“He was quarantined until December 8, as he had close contact with a detainee who tested positive for Covid-19.
“He was arrested again and in preventive detention until Friday (December 18).
“The victims were five men, aged between 27 and 40, disabled and members of an association for the deaf.
“The suspect came to Malaysia at the invitation of the founder of the deaf association to teach the Bible since 1998,” he said.
