PETALING JAYA: Deputy Minister of Health I Dr. Noor Azmi Ghazali’s office has denied news reports from two portals that he had violated the motion control order by receiving visitors at his office in Putrajaya today.
“The allegations made on the two portals are false,” Noor Azmi’s office said in a statement, referring to Malaysiakini and MalaysiaPost.com.
He went on to explain that Noor Azmi had met with a group of people on January 12, the day before the MCO took effect. The photos uploaded to Facebook were from that meeting, he said.
Noor Azmi’s office asked the two portals to retract their allegations in their reports.
“The false accusations give people a negative perception of the vice minister of health and the ministry of health.”
Earlier tonight, Malaysiakini released a report on Noor Azmi’s courtship controversy “on suspicion that he did not comply with standard operating procedures.”
According to the portal, Noor Azmi uploaded several photos of him receiving guests on his Facebook page today.
The photos, according to the portal, were uploaded with the caption “The Ministry of Health. Parliamentary friends who visit the office of the Vice Minister of Health I ”around 1:00 pm today.
“They were removed from the Facebook page around 9 pm,” the report said, although it noted that the post did not specify when the meeting took place.
Putrajaya, along with Kuala Lumpur and Labuan are under a 14-day MCO as of today, following the recent spike in Covid-19 cases.
In addition to the federal territories, five states were also placed under the MCO, namely Selangor, Penang, Melaka, Johor, and Sabah.
According to the SOP, face-to-face meetings in government and private agencies are prohibited, while official and unofficial ceremonies are also prohibited.
