Hansi Flick says David Alaba should think twice before looking for a Bayern Munich exit in January.
Transfer rumors have linked Liverpool to the versatile player after Virgil van Dijk’s knee injury left Jurgen Klopp short on the back.
Fabinho and Joel Matip’s injuries have also increased the pressure on the Reds’ defense.
Alaba may not be a natural center-back, but he was at the heart of the defense during Bayern’s successful Champions League campaign in August, earning accolades for his performances.
However, his ability to play on the wing and in the midfield would also prove useful for a coach looking to improve his team’s depth at multiple positions.
With his contract terminated at the end of the season, there is much speculation about the future of Alaba.
But Flick has urged Alaba to sign a new contract and says he is not worried about the prospect of the 28-year-old leaving in January.
“Against Arminia Bielefeld, Atlético de Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, Alaba is doing a good job,” said Flick.
“I feel like it’s the same as last season, very focused, noisy on the field. He is one of the players who leads our defense. For me, there is no difference between now and last season.
“I don’t care at all at the moment.
“I still hope he signs with Bayern because I think he knows what the situation is like here in Munich.
“It’s a lot of fun training with a team with a good atmosphere here. We play successful football and this club is one of the best in the world.
“The conditions are the best for all the players at the moment and I think he will think twice before changing that.
“It is his decision, and obviously we have to respect it, but I hope he stays. He has to decide, my feeling is irrelevant. “
