Criminals not registered in the criminal registry: IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: The names of those found guilty of violating the Movement Control Order (MCO) will not be recorded in the criminal registry.

Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador (pix) when contacted by Bernama confirmed that the names of the MCO offenders would not be entered into the Royal Malaysian Police Criminal Records System.

“MCO offenders would not be recorded on the criminal record,” he said when asked to comment on whether MCO offenders would have a criminal record after being detained.

He said that although their names were not recorded, it did not mean that people could violate the MCO in place to slow the spread of the Covid-19 infection.

“Members of the public have to comply with the MCO since the punishment and jail sentence for those who challenge the MCO is painful,” he said.

Today, Chief Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 683 people were detained for MCO violations yesterday (April 29), bringing the cumulative total number of arrests as of yesterday to 22,432 people. – Bernama
