Covid vaccine: police warn against incitement

RULE: The police will not hesitate to take strong action against any party that tries to incite people by despising the use of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Perlis Police Chief Datuk Surina Saad said police would be monitoring social media for any elements of anti-vaccine sentiment, although there have been no such cases in the state so far.

” There is a lot of news about the vaccine if we look on social networks, some are good and others are denigrating it.

“But the important thing is that the vaccine is safe for use, as seen when Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin became the first person to receive the Covid-19 vaccine,” he told reporters here today.

She said action could be taken under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code, as well as the Communications and Multimedia Act of 1998 to cause alarm among the public.
