MELAKA (Bernama): A 33-year-old woman wearing a pink bracelet was escorted home by police after she violated the quarantine order under the Covid-19 Recovery Motion Control Order (MCO) by purchasing basic items for Deepavali in a hypermarket in Batu Berendam here. Sunday (November 8).
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, ACP, Afzanizar Ahmad, said that in response to a complaint from the security guard at the hypermarket around 6.45pm, a police team rushed in and found the woman with a male relative in the hypermarket.
“The security guard had previously asked the woman to remove her long-sleeved green jacket and saw the pink band on her right wrist. She was immediately asked to leave the premises and wait in front of the security guard’s office.
“After her personal data was taken, the woman was instructed to go home to continue her quarantine. She was escorted by the police to make sure she got home,” she said in a statement on Monday (November 9).
ACP Afzanizar said that when verifying, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the woman in home quarantine is a person under surveillance (PUS) and that her quarantine will end this Thursday (November 12).
“The woman has not been arrested as she will turn herself in to the police station after her quarantine period ends and she tested negative for Covid-19. No statement from the woman was recorded.
“The investigation is ongoing under Section 270 of the Penal Code and Section 22B of the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act of 1988.”
A total of 327 positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Melaka with a new group detected, the Berendam group, linked to cases in Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah. – Bernama
