GEORGE TOWN: A 26-year-old woman who was supposed to comply with her mandatory 14-day quarantine for Covid-19 was spotted at a public market in Relau near here on Wednesday (November 4).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the woman was seen trying to enter the market by a team from the Northeast District Health Department during a standard operating procedure (SOP) in the area.

“The subject is a person under surveillance who lives in Paya Terubong and works in a factory in Bayan Lepas,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (November 4).

ACP Soffian said the woman was instructed to self-quarantine from October 26 to November 8.

He added that the district health department has filed a police report and that the woman has been turned over to the department for further action.

The director of the State Department of Health, Dr. Asmayani Khalib, said the woman would be slapped with a compound if investigations confirm that she had violated his quarantine order.

“She will be fined after the investigation is completed on November 8,” he added.
