KUALA LUMPUR: Police believe it is time to increase the current compound fine of RM1,000 imposed on violators who violate the Motion Control Order (MCO) Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) following a spike in Covid-19 cases. in all the country.
Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said that each week the police would issue thousands of citations to people for violating the SOP, with the majority involving those who do not adhere to physical distancing.
To make matters worse, he said, there were some who even made interdistrict and interstate trips for no valid reason.
“If the 1,000 RM compound is considered small, then those who are stubborn will surely pay the price when the decision to increase the compound’s fine is published. The time has come to increase the compound fine, ”he said today when contacted by Bernama.
He said he had instructed his staff to issue citations to violators by not giving them leeway to let them out with a warning.
Abdul Hamid said that since police began enforcing the latest MCO, a total of 474 staff members have tested positive for Covid-19, while another 1,628 have been quarantined.
“It is really very sad when our infected leaders have to be treated by another group of leaders in the hospitals,” he said.
Lately there has been a spike in Covid-19 cases across the country, with the number of daily cases approaching the 6,000 mark after 5,725 cases were reported yesterday and 5,728 today. -Called
