Covid-19: three new clusters detected

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health has detected three new clusters of infections, bringing the total number of active clusters in the country to 101.

In a statement, Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that one of the groups, called the Palma group, has cases from the Gombak and Hulu Selangor districts in Selangor, as well as from Kepong in Kuala Lumpur.

“The index case in this group tested positive for Covid-19 during a screening test in people with symptoms on October 17 and was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“A close contact test found another 12 positive cases. Another 88 that were evaluated are still awaiting their results,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

Another group, the Samudera group in Sandakan, Sabah, has eight linked cases so far.

Dr Noor Hisham said that the index case was also found to be positive for Covid-19 during a screening test in symptomatic individuals on October 20 and was admitted to Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

In the third new group, the Jaya group, cases were detected in Sepang, Selangor and Seremban, Negri Sembilan.

“The index case was found in an examination conducted at a workplace on October 20. Examination of close contacts found eight more positive cases,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

There are 34 active groups that registered new cases on Friday.

Kepayan’s group, which involves a prison in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, had the highest number of new cases on Friday with 140 infections.

Together, the group has recorded 722 cases with more than 1,400 people tested so far.

The remand group in Penang registered 39 new cases, bringing its total to 446.

Another group of prisons, the Tembok group in Kedah, registered only one new case. In total, the cluster has 1,587 cases and 930 have recovered so far.

Three deaths of the Tembok group have been reported.
