KUCHING (Oct 7): Sarawak recorded three new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total positive cases in the state to 724, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said.
SDMC said that all the most recent cases were imported cases that were recorded in Kuching, Sri Aman and Bintulu.
Today no cases of local transmission have been reported in the state.
“Case 722 involved an official who is stationed and lives in Sri Aman. The case had gone to Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya on vacation and a random test for Covid-19 was conducted on the return flight at Kuching International Airport (KIA) on September 25.
“The case was then screened for Covid-19 using the RT-PCR test on October 3, and ordered to undergo home quarantine the same day. The test came back positive on October 6, ”SDMC said today in a press release.
SDMC said the case was asymptomatic and was referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
SDMC said the case had also been randomly tested for Covid-19 on Aug. 24 at KIA during a previous trip back to Kuala Lumpur that came back negative.
“The case has no history of travel abroad or from Sabah, but the case frequently travels to Pahang via Kuala Lumpur.”
SDMC said the case has been classified as an import case in view of the fact that the patient possibly became infected while in Kuala Lumpur, and that further investigation and follow-up of all contacts with this case is still underway.
The second case, Case 723, is a local man who returned from Kuala Lumpur via Kuala Lumpur International Airport and KIA on October 3, and had undergone a random screening for Covid-19. The test came back positive on October 6.
SDMC said the case is a frequent traveler to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and the last visit was on September 26 through Miri Airport. The case underwent a swab test that day which came back negative.
“However, when the case arrived from Kuala Lumpur on October 3, the case did not declare the visit to Sabah within the 14-day period. The case was asymptomatic and was referred to the SGH for further treatment.
“This case has been classified as an import case in view of the fact that the patient became infected while in a high-risk area, which is Sabah, and further investigations and tracing of all contacts with this patient are still underway.” .
The third case, Case 724, is a local man working in Tawau, Sabah as security personnel who returned to Miri on a flight from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu, and from Kota Kinabalu to Miri on September 27, before driving a car. familiar from Miri. to Bintulu.
The case received permission to reunite with relatives in Bintulu. Before returning to Sarawak, the case underwent a Covid-19 test at a private laboratory in Tawau, Sabah, on September 24.
The test came back negative and the case was allowed to enter Sarawak. On October 6, she underwent a RT-PCT test on the 10th at the Bintulu Health Clinic and tested positive.
The case was asymptomatic and was referred to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment. This case has been classified as an import case in view of the fact that the patient became infected while in a high-risk area, which is Sabah, and further investigations and follow-up of all contacts with this patient are still underway.
Meanwhile, SDMC said that a Covid-19 patient had recovered and was allowed to be discharged from Bintulu Hospital today, bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 684 or 94.48 percent of the total cases.
“There are currently 21 patients being treated and isolated in hospitals across the state, of which 11 are being treated at SGH, six at Miri Hospital, three at Sibu Hospital and one at Bintulu Hospital,” he added.
On the number of persons under investigation (PUI), SDMC said that today four new cases were registered with one case pending the result of laboratory tests. Today there were no new deaths or new patients in the ICU.
Since the first positive case of Covid-19 was reported on March 13, the state has recorded a total of 19 deaths.
