KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has announced standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Christmas church mass during the ongoing enhanced motion control order (MCO) in the state.

“Attendance is limited to 50% of the church’s capacity, taking into account physical distance and a medical check-up will be carried out at the entrance of the venue.

“Ceremonies or activities that involve physical contact are not allowed.

“The mass period should not exceed one hour and 30 minutes per session, and should be followed by a 45-minute disinfection process before the next mass session,” he said in a statement on Saturday (December 19).

The SOPs also advised people with chronic illnesses, the elderly, and children under the age of 12 to avoid attending mass.

Churchgoers are also reminded not to shake hands and to gather outside the church building to chat.

“Meanwhile, for visitors to the houses during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, they are not allowed to stay for more than two hours,” Masidi said, adding that the head of the family should make sure that everyone wears masks and stay within one meter of physical distance. .

The improved MCO ruling in Sabah, which was initially scheduled to end on December 20, has been extended to December 31.
